June 30: International Asteroid Day and the Concept of World Safe ePay Day

June 30 marks International Asteroid Day. Looking forward to World Safe ePay Day!

International Asteroid Day is an Observance Day, not a Remembrance Day.

Observance Days focus on a specific thought, an ongoing thought.

On June 30, International Asteroid Day, everyone will turn to the heavens.

The holiday was established following the 2014 publication of the film 51 Degrees North, which examines what might happen if an asteroid struck London.

The film's creative team (many of whom are scientists) aimed to raise awareness about the threat of asteroids impacting Earth and how we may help protect ourselves.

To do this, they established a foundation and held the world's first International Asteroid Day in 2015.

Over one million asteroids in orbit have the potential to strike Earth, yet modern scientists have only detected roughly 1% of them. To combat.

Why Asteroid Day?

In December 2016 the United Nations General Assembly adopted resolution A/RES/71/90, declaring 30 June International Asteroid Day  in order to "observe each year at the international level the anniversary of the Tunguska impact over Siberia, Russian Federation, on 30 June 1908, and to raise public awareness about the asteroid impact hazard."

International Asteroid Day aims to raise public awareness about the asteroid impact hazard and to inform the public about the crisis communication actions to be taken at the global level in case of a credible near-Earth object threat.

The General Assembly’s decision was made based on a proposal by the Association of Space Explorers, which was endorsed by Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS).

**World Safe ePay Day: Conceptual Stage**

Looking forward to the potential establishment of World Safe ePay Day, this proposed observance would focus on the significance of secure electronic payments in today's digital economy.

As financial transactions increasingly shift from physical to digital platforms, the importance of robust cybersecurity measures becomes paramount.

World Safe ePay Day aims to highlight best practices in digital security, promote consumer confidence, and foster global collaboration to safeguard electronic payment systems.

**Intertwining with International Asteroid Day**

While International Asteroid Day looks to the skies to protect our planet from extraterrestrial threats, World Safe ePay Day would focus on the ground, ensuring the safety of our digital financial transactions.

Both observances share a common goal of promoting awareness and fostering cooperation to address global challenges.

Just as International Asteroid Day mobilizes efforts to detect and mitigate asteroid risks, World Safe ePay Day would seek to unite stakeholders in enhancing the security and reliability of electronic payments.

International Asteroid Day is an abstract celebration, like the proposed World Safe ePay Day. Of course, there are opportunities for folks to touch and feel asteroid at some places across the world.

By celebrating these observances, we acknowledge the interconnectedness of global issues, whether they come from space or cyberspace.

Each day serves as a reminder of our shared responsibility to protect and improve the systems that support our daily lives, from the celestial to the digital.

Disclaimer: These are my thoughts only. The bottom line is spreading the Joy of Safe ePayments. World Safe ePay Day is one such medium.

June 29 - International Day of the Tropics. Looking forward to World Safe ePay Day

The INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE TROPICS is an opportunity to celebrate the worldwide diversity of the tropics and ponder on the challenges the Tropics face

The INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE TROPICS is an opportunity also to understand the multiple opportunities available to mankind to benefit from the diversity and potential of the Tropics.

The concept of World Safe ePay Day: -

World Safe ePay Day is an abstract celebration, whereas World Blouse Day is more of a visual celebration.

Hence, advocating both World Safe ePay Day and World Blouse Day.

As many folks reside in the Tropics, Safe Digital Transactions allows the residents to be involved in the region’s economic progress.

World Safe ePay Day can be an important occasion to raise awareness of secure electronic payments on a global scale.

The World Safe ePay Day celebration can draw attention to the significance of security and dependability in electronic payment systems across the globe in a time when financial transactions are taking place more and more online.

With economies all around the world shifting to digital transactions, strong cybersecurity measures are becoming increasingly important.

World Safe ePay Day will be a reminder of the vital role that safe electronic payments play in building confidence and trust among financial institutions, businesses, and consumers alike.

World Safe  ePay Day is an opportunity to promotes ongoing progress in securing financial transactions against cyber threats by endorsing improved technology safeguards and best practices in digital security.

The Tropics Ecosystem

The Tropics are a region of the Earth, roughly defined as the area between the tropic of Cancer and the tropic of Capricorn.

Although topography and other factors contribute to climatic variation, tropical locations are typically warm and experience little seasonal change in day-to-day temperature.

An important feature of the Tropics is the prevalence of rain in the moist inner regions near the equator, and the seasonality of rainfall increases with the distance from the equator.

The tropical region faces several challenges such as climate change, deforestation, logging, urbanization, and demographic changes.

These challenges are common across all regions of the world, and INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE TROPICS provides an opportunity to focus on challenges faced by the Tropics.

The Human System

Tropical nations have made significant progress but face a variety of challenges that demand focused attention across a range of development indicators and data in order to achieve sustainable development.

By 2050, the region will host most of the world's people and two-thirds of its children.

Consistent with the higher levels of poverty, more people experience undernourishment in the Tropics than in the rest of the world.

The proportion of the urban population living in slum conditions is higher in the Tropics than in the rest of the World.

Background

The inaugural State of the Tropics Report was launched on 29 June 2014, as the culmination of a collaboration between twelve leading tropical research institutions.

The report offers a unique perspective on this increasingly important region.

Marking the anniversary of the report’s launch the United Nations General Assembly adopted resolution A/RES/70/267 in 2016, which declared that 29 June of each year is to be observed as the International Day of the Tropics.

The International Day of the Tropics was designated to raise awareness to the specific challenges faced by tropical areas, the far-reaching implications of the issues affecting the world’s tropical zone and the need, at all levels, to raise awareness and to underline the important role that countries in the tropics will play in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Understanding the Tropics

The tropics are a geographic area of Earth roughly between the Tropic of Cancer in the north and the Tropic of Capricorn in the south.

This region is characterized by:

·      Warm temperatures year-round

·      Little seasonal variation in day-to-day temperature

·      Significant rainfall, especially near the equator

·      Diverse and abundant plant and animal life

The tropics are home to some of the world’s most biodiverse ecosystems, including rainforests, coral reefs, and mangrove swamps. These areas play a vital role in regulating the Earth’s climate and supporting countless species.

The date of June 29 was chosen to commemorate the anniversary of the first “State of the Tropics Report,” launched in 2014 by Myanmar’s Nobel Laureate, Aung San Suu Kyi.

Did you know?

The Tropics host nearly 95% of the world’s mangrove forests by area and 99% of mangrove species.

The Tropics have just over half of the world’s renewable water resources (54%), yet almost half their population is considered vulnerable to water stress.

Biodiversity is greater in the Tropics – however, loss of biodiversity is also greater in the Tropics than in the rest of the world.

Why do we celebrate International Days?
International days and weeks are opportunities to educate the public on important subjects, organize political will and resources to address global problems, and celebrate and reinforce humanity's achievements.

International days precede the founding of the United Nations, but the UN has embraced them as an effective propaganda tool.

June 25 - Day of the Seafarer and the Concept of World Safe ePay Day

Day of the Seafarer is not directly celebrated by United Nations. It is celebrated by IMO and supported by United Nations

Day of the Seafarer is not a Remembrance Day but an Observance Day.

On the Day of the Seafarer, people around the world have an opportunity to remember the contributions of Seafarers and their daily hardships.

Hence, this is an Observance Day

Remembrance Day vs. Observance Day: Key Differences

Remembrance Day:  Purpose -  Remembrance Days are specifically intended to honor and remember those who have died, particularly in wars or significant tragic events.

Observance Day: Purpose -  Observance Days are broader in scope and can be designated to raise awareness about a wide range of issues, celebrate achievements, or promote specific causes. They are not necessarily focused on remembrance of the deceased.

Incorporating World Safe ePay Day:

Concept: - World Safe ePay Day would be an Observance Day focused on raising awareness about the importance of secure online payment practices.

Purpose:

   - To educate the public about safe e-payment methods, promote cybersecurity awareness, and encourage best practices in online financial transactions.

By understanding the distinctions between Remembrance Days and Observance Days, we can better appreciate the unique purpose and activities associated with each, while effectively advocating for new concepts like World Safe ePay Day.

World Safe ePay Day represents a significant milestone in global awareness and celebration of secure electronic payments. In an era where financial transactions increasingly occur in the digital realm, this observance aims to highlight the importance of safety and reliability in electronic payment systems worldwide.

**Day of the Seafarer 2024**

The Day of the Seafarer, held on June 25, recognizes the significant contributions seafarers make to international trade and the global economy.

The 2024 campaign focuses on safety tips at sea, highlighting the challenging and often dangerous conditions seafarers face. Seafarers are responsible for about 90 percent of world trade, transporting essential goods and materials across the globe.

Despite their vital role, they often work under difficult conditions, including long periods away from home, rough weather, and risks such as piracy and exposure to health hazards.

Towards this end, Day of the Seafarer spreads awareness about the unique lives of Seafarers.

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) encourages global support for seafarers through social media campaigns, urging people to use #DayOfTheSeafarer to show appreciation.

Established in 2010 and first observed in 2011, the Day of the Seafarer aims to raise public awareness of seafarers' crucial role in the maritime industry and their contributions to our daily lives.

**International Days and Weeks**

The United Nations designates specific days, weeks, years, and decades to mark significant events or topics, promoting awareness and action on these issues.

These observances serve as powerful advocacy tools, enabling various stakeholders, including governments, civil society, and the private sector, to organize related activities.

The UN's specialized agencies, such as UNESCO and UNICEF, often establish these days, which the General Assembly may later adopt.

**Concept of World Safe ePay Day**

In conjunction with such international observances, the concept of **World Safe ePay Day** is being proposed. As digital financial transactions become increasingly prevalent, raising awareness about secure online payment practices is essential. World Safe ePay Day would promote safe e-payment methods, protecting individuals and communities from cyber threats, and ensuring that the convenience of online transactions does not compromise security.

**Interweaving Day of the Seafarer and World Safe ePay Day**

Both the Day of the Seafarer and the conceptual World Safe ePay Day highlight the importance of safety in their respective fields—maritime and digital. As we recognize seafarers' vital contributions to global trade and economy, we can also acknowledge the growing need for secure digital financial practices. Promoting safety, whether at sea or online, is crucial for ensuring the well-being and prosperity of our interconnected world.

In a sense, both Day of the Seafarer and World Safe ePay Day promote safety in the day to day lives.

The remittances by Seafarers play a crucial role in the world economy. The Seafarers look forward to Safe and minimal expenses remittance channel.

By designating a day dedicated to celebrating safe electronic payments, World Safe ePay Day not only raises awareness but also fosters collaboration among stakeholders – including governments, businesses, and civil society – to continuously enhance cybersecurity standards and practices.

It serves as a catalyst for ongoing dialogue and action towards building a more secure and resilient digital financial ecosystem globally.

Disclaimer: These are my thoughts only. The only Joy is in Safe ePayments and World Safe ePay Day is one of the channels.

Seafarers spend most of their time away from the shore, and Safe ePayments will make their life more peaceful.

24 June - International Day of Women in Diplomacy. Looking forward to World Safe ePay Day

World Safe ePay Day  is still conceptual

, and I am pitching this wherever possible.

Yes, World Safe ePay Day  is possible, the journey is a bit long, but there is light at the end of the tunnel.

No Vada Pav till the initial breakthrough.

There are several days in Mumbai, where breakfast/lunch/dinner was Vada Pav only !!!

**Why mark International Days?**

International days and weeks educate the public on critical issues, mobilize political will and resources to address global problems, and celebrate humanity's achievements. Though predating the UN, these days are powerful advocacy tools embraced by the UN.

Yes, International Days are important to spread the Joy of our achievements and also address global problems.

International Days are an opportunity to mobilise political will to focus on global problems.

**World Safe ePay Day  Concept**

In the spirit of raising awareness and addressing critical global issues, the concept of **World Safe ePay Day ** is being pitched.

As financial transactions increasingly move from physical to digital, this proposed observance aims to highlight the importance of secure online payment practices.

By promoting safe e-payment methods, World Safe ePay Day  would protect individuals and communities from cyber threats, ensuring that the convenience of online transactions does not compromise security.

This observance parallels the importance of inclusive governance and secure financial systems, both crucial for societal wellbeing and advancement.

Safe and Stylish: Unveiling World Safe ePay Day   and Blouse Day Delights

Yes, the initial focus is on World Safe ePay Day  and little focus on World Blouse Day.

World Safe ePay Day  is abstract i.e one cannot feel digital transactions.

World Blouse Day is an opportunity for a visual impact.

The need for observing World Safe ePay Day  and World Blouse Day arises from the absence of dedicated global celebrations for these concepts. World Safe ePay Day  aims to celebrate the joy of safe electronic payments in all financial transactions, representing an abstract celebration that highlights the significance of secure and efficient digital financial interactions. As the world increasingly relies on electronic payment systems, having a designated day for Safe ePay emphasizes the importance of secure and reliable digital financial transactions.

On the other hand, World Blouse Day seeks to celebrate the joys of wearing blouses in a more lively and visually impactful manner. The concept involves a powerful display of togetherness, with millions of people stepping out wearing blouses based on a chosen theme. This display celebration not only promotes a sense of unity but also serves as a unique and creative expression of shared identity through clothing.

While international days often focus on serious matters, World SafeePay Day and World Blouse Day offer a mix of abstract and lively celebrations, catering to the diverse interests and aspects of modern life.

In a world where electronic transactions and cultural expressions are integral parts of daily living, these designated days would contribute to fostering awareness and appreciation for safe ePayments and the joy of wearing blouses.

**Inclusive Diplomacy**

Historically overlooked, women's contributions to diplomacy are immense. Representing half of the world’s population, women bring diverse leadership styles and priorities, enhancing diplomacy’s scope and outcomes.

Research shows that women's involvement in cabinets and parliaments leads to laws and policies beneficial to people, the environment, and social cohesion.

Women have the knack to see issues from other angles, which is helpful to resolve the problem at hand.

Inclusive governance ensures better-informed policies by incorporating diverse perspectives. However, violence against women in politics hinders progress toward gender equality, deterring women from participating in politics and voicing opinions.

Women have played crucial roles in the UN since its founding in 1945. The UN General Assembly, the world's largest yearly meeting of leaders, has seen limited female representation, with only four women elected as Presidents in 77 years. The 15-member UN Security Council also has a low percentage of female members.

Recognizing women’s contributions in diplomacy is vital. From 1992 to 2019, women represented a small fraction of negotiators, mediators, and signatories in peace processes worldwide. Gender equality and women's empowerment contribute significantly to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The General Assembly declared 24 June as the International Day of Women in Diplomacy to promote women’s representation in diplomacy. The resolution invites global observance through education and public awareness.

**The Power of Women Peacebuilders**

Women play a crucial role in justice, peace, and security but are often sidelined in formal peace processes. Women peacebuilders work tirelessly to broker and maintain peace, rebuilding societies from conflict. Their inclusion in peacebuilding is essential for long-term success, contributing to lasting peace after conflict.

23 June – United Nations Public Service Day. Looking forward to World Safe ePay Day

The United Nations Public Service Day celebrated worldwide on June 23rd every year, is in the list of UN Observance Days.

This is not a remembrance event as this day is not spent to remember an event/thought but to celebrate the contributions of Public Servants worldwide.

Observances are remembrance, awareness, and celebration days or events that don't typically involve a day off work, allowing people to maintain their routines while focusing on a specific theme or idea.

Unlike public holidays, observances like Halloween and Valentine’s Day in the US significantly impact business demand across industries.

Imagine the global impact of these events, each with regional observances you might not be aware of.

Yes, there are many regional observances and remembrance days which have an economic  impact on the local economy.

Consider the potential influence of ** World Safe ePay Day ** on a global scale.

As financial transactions increasingly move from the physical to the digital realm, this observance could raise awareness about the importance of secure online payment practices.

**Why mark International Days?**

International days and weeks educate the public on critical issues, mobilize political will and resources to address global problems and celebrate and reinforce human achievements.

The United Nations, recognizing the power of these observances as advocacy tools, has embraced them to address and highlight various global concerns.

By promoting ** World Safe ePay Day **, we can emphasize the necessity of secure financial transactions in our digital age, ensuring the safety and security of global financial interactions.

Designating a day as World Safe ePay Day has multiple benefits.

The top 4 benefits of World Safe ePay Day can be summarised as follows:

Benefit 01) Promotion of Cybersecurity Awareness

Benefit 02) Enhancement of  Customer Confidence

Benefit 03) Support for Economic Growth and Financial Inclusion

Benefit 04) Strengthening Global Cooperation.

Our country is the leader in Digital Transactions and flag of World Safe ePay Day can be first unveiled in our country.

As the idea grows, we can popularise it across the world.

United Nations Public Service Day, designated on 23 June by the General Assembly's resolution A/RES/57/277, celebrates the value and virtue of public service to the community.

It highlights the contributions of public service to the development process, recognizes the work of public servants, and encourages young people to pursue careers in the public sector.

Economies flourish when young people enter the public sector. The young blood can motivate the local population to be aware of their rights and the way to leverage their strength.

Since its inception in 2003, the UN Public Service Awards have become the most prestigious international recognition of excellence in public service, rewarding the creative achievements of public service institutions that enhance effective and responsive public administration globally.

The United Nations Public Service Forum, organized annually by UN DESA, is a global event focusing on public governance capacity development.

It explores emerging challenges, innovative practices, and capacity development strategies to support sustainable development.

The Forum brings together world leaders, policymakers, practitioners, and innovators in governance, alongside representatives from international organizations, academia, non-profits, and the private sector.

The 2024 UN Public Service Forum and Awards Ceremony will take place in Incheon, Republic of Korea from 24 to 26 June 2024, under the theme ‘Fostering Innovation amid Global Challenges: a Public Sector Perspective’.

The Forum is co-organized by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) through its Division for Public Institutions and Digital Government (DPIDG) and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety of the Republic of Korea (MOIS).

The Forum will provide a platform for Ministers, senior level decision-makers, and working level public servants to reflect upon and develop the skills needed to devise tangible actions to foster innovation and transformation at the local and national levels.

The Forum will also provide the opportunity to highlight innovative public sector initiatives through its 2024 United Nations Public Service Awards Ceremony.

The highlight will be the takeaways from the Award night for the public servants gathered worldwide.

** World Safe ePay Day Concept**

In conjunction with United Nations Public Service Day, the concept of ** World Safe ePay Day ** is being pitched to raise awareness about secure online payment practices.

This proposed observance aims to emphasize the importance of secure financial transactions in our increasingly digital world, drawing parallels to the critical role of public service. By promoting safe e-payment methods, World Safe ePay Day would seek to protect individuals and communities from cyber threats, ensuring that the convenience of online transactions does not compromise security.

Recognizing both days highlights essential resources for societal wellbeing and advancement.

June 22 – World Bathing Day. Looking forward to World Safe ePay Day.

What are your plans for World Bathing Day?

Please note that World Bathing Day is not in the calendar  of UN Remembrance / Observances.

World Bathing Day is an initiative of a private organization

There is a petition in progress to United Nations to include World Bathing Day in its calendar.

This means private organizations do take the initiative to designate a day to focus on a particular idea/theme.

A focused day on a particular idea/theme is a powerful tool to spread the word about the benefits of the idea/theme.

Simply put, observances are remembrance, awareness, and celebration days or events that are not normally days off work. These events are inherently different from public holidays. This means folks can do their routine work, but for some time, the focus is on a particular theme/idea/thought.

While observances in the US such as Halloween and Valentine’s Day don’t mean a day off, they do impact business demand across industries.

Imagine the impact these events have not just within a single territory or even country, but globally–  each with their own regional observances you might not have insight into.

So, see the impact ‘World Safe ePay Day’ can have across the world.

More and more financial transactions are moving from the physical realm to digital realm.

World Safe ePay Day is an opportunity to raise global awareness and celebration of secure electronic payments.

In an era where financial transactions increasingly occur in the digital realm, this observance can  highlight the importance of safety and reliability in electronic payment systems worldwide.

**World Bathing Day on June 22** celebrates the diverse rituals and traditions of bathing, cleansing, and rejuvenation, while highlighting the critical issue of clean water access, as one in three people globally lack it.

Celebrated in over 50 countries, participants share photos on social media to raise awareness of water’s cultural and historical significance.

The $56 billion hot springs industry promotes World Bathing Day events, encouraging the sharing of bathing images on Instagram using #worldbathingday.

This day also addresses the severe health consequences of limited access to clean bathing water, such as the daily deaths of 1,000 children from water-related diseases and the extensive time women and girls spend gathering water, which affects their education and hope.

Created by the Bathe the World Foundation and supported by the GWI Hot Springs Initiative, World Bathing Day aims to unite people through the practice of hot springs bathing.

This act highlights the interconnectedness of community and planetary wellbeing. The concept of World Bath Day took off in  2018, and  the event has drawn participants from across the globe, emphasizing humanity’s interdependent relationship with water.

In conjunction with World Bathing Day, the concept of ** World Safe ePay Day ** is being developed.

This proposed observance aims to raise awareness about secure online payment practices.

Just as World Bathing Day highlights the importance of clean water, World Safe ePay Day would emphasize the necessity of secure financial transactions in our increasingly digital world.

Promoting safe e-payment methods can protect individuals and communities from cyber threats, ensuring that the convenience of online transactions does not compromise security.

By recognizing both days, we can draw parallels between the essential resources of water and secure financial systems, both critical for the wellbeing and advancement of society.

More details of World Bathing Day can be found on the website of Bathe the World Foundation @ https://worldbathingday.org/
