         Day of the Seafarer is not directly celebrated by United Nations. It is celebrated by IMO and supported by United Nations

         Day of the Seafarer is not a Remembrance Day but an Observance Day.

         On the Day of the Seafarer, people around the world have an opportunity to remember the contributions of Seafarers and their daily hardships.

         Hence, this is an Observance Day

Remembrance Day vs. Observance Day: Key Differences

 

Remembrance Day:  Purpose -  Remembrance Days are specifically intended to honor and remember those who have died, particularly in wars or significant tragic events.

Observance Day: Purpose -  Observance Days are broader in scope and can be designated to raise awareness about a wide range of issues, celebrate achievements, or promote specific causes. They are not necessarily focused on remembrance of the deceased.

 

Incorporating World Safe ePay Day:

 

Concept: - World Safe ePay Day would be an Observance Day focused on raising awareness about the importance of secure online payment practices.

 

Purpose:

   - To educate the public about safe e-payment methods, promote cybersecurity awareness, and encourage best practices in online financial transactions.

By understanding the distinctions between Remembrance Days and Observance Days, we can better appreciate the unique purpose and activities associated with each, while effectively advocating for new concepts like World Safe ePay Day.

**Day of the Seafarer 2024**

The Day of the Seafarer, held on June 25, recognizes the significant contributions seafarers make to international trade and the global economy.

The 2024 campaign focuses on safety tips at sea, highlighting the challenging and often dangerous conditions seafarers face. Seafarers are responsible for about 90 percent of world trade, transporting essential goods and materials across the globe.

Towards this end, Day of the Seafarer spreads awareness about the unique lives of Seafarers.

Established in 2010 and first observed in 2011, the Day of the Seafarer aims to raise public awareness of seafarers' crucial role in the maritime industry and their contributions to our daily lives.

The United Nations designates specific days, weeks, years, and decades to mark significant events or topics, promoting awareness and action on these issues.

These observances serve as powerful advocacy tools, enabling various stakeholders, including governments, civil society, and the private sector, to organize related activities.

The UN's specialized agencies, such as UNESCO and UNICEF, often establish these days, which the General Assembly may later adopt.
