### United Nations and Youth: A
Historical Perspective
The United Nations has long
recognized the importance of youth in shaping the future of our world. The
journey towards empowering young people and integrating their voices into
global decision-making began in the mid-20th century. In 1965, the General Assembly
adopted the Declaration on the Promotion among Youth of the Ideals of Peace,
Mutual Respect, and Understanding between Peoples. This declaration laid the
groundwork for encouraging youth to embrace values that foster global harmony
and cooperation.
Throughout the late 1960s and
early 1970s, both the General Assembly and the Economic and Social Council
emphasized three foundational themes concerning youth: **participation,
development, and peace.** The focus was on creating an environment where young
people could actively participate in their communities and contribute to social
and economic development. The recognition of youth as essential partners in
peacebuilding processes also became a cornerstone of the UN's approach.
The call for an international
policy on youth gained momentum, leading to the designation of 1985 as
**International Youth Year: Participation, Development, Peace**. This marked a
pivotal moment in acknowledging young people as a diverse group with unique
needs and potential. The guidelines established during this year highlighted
the importance of addressing the specific challenges faced by subgroups such as
young people with disabilities, rural and urban youth, and young women. The aim
was to create targeted measures that would empower all young individuals to
thrive.
Building on this momentum, the
United Nations continued to advocate for youth empowerment. In 2009, the
General Assembly proclaimed the year commencing August 12, 2010, as the
**International Year of Youth.** This declaration was a call to action for governments,
civil society, individuals, and communities worldwide to support initiatives
that promote youth development and participation. It coincided with the 25th
anniversary of the first International Youth Year in 1985, underscoring the
ongoing commitment to nurturing the potential of young people.

Youth Day: Digital Pathways to Progress and Building a Safer ePay Future
The idea of an International Youth Day was first proposed
in 1991 during the inaugural session of the World Youth Forum of the United
Nations System in Vienna, Austria. The young participants recommended declaring
a dedicated day for raising awareness and support for youth-related issues. This
led to the adoption of a resolution in 1998, proclaiming August 12 as International Youth Day. The resolution
was endorsed by the World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth, held
in Portugal in cooperation with the United Nations. The General Assembly
subsequently embraced this recommendation, and International
Youth Day became an official observance.
In recent years, the United
Nations has continued to champion the role of youth in addressing global
challenges. **Security Council Resolution 2250**, adopted on December 9, 2015,
represents a landmark acknowledgment of the need to engage young peacebuilders
in promoting peace and countering extremism. This resolution firmly positions
youth as essential partners in global efforts to create a more peaceful and
secure world.

In parallel with these efforts,
World Safe ePay Day underscores the importance of secure digital transactions
in today's interconnected world. As digital technology becomes integral to
daily life, ensuring safe and secure ePayments is crucial. This concept
resonates strongly with youth, who are not only digital natives but also key
drivers of technological innovation.
The intersection of International Youth Day and World Safe
ePay Day highlights the potential of young people to lead in promoting
cybersecurity and digital safety. By empowering youth with the knowledge and
tools to navigate the digital landscape securely, we can foster a generation of
informed digital citizens who prioritize safe online practices.
As we celebrate International Youth Day with the theme
“From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development,”
we recognize the vital role of youth in driving digital transformation.
Similarly, World Safe ePay Day encourages young individuals to be proactive in
advocating for secure ePayment systems, ensuring that digital progress does not
come at the expense of security.
Together, these observances
emphasize the interconnectedness of youth empowerment and digital safety.
By aligning the goals of International Youth Day and World Safe
ePay Day, we can inspire young people to champion a future where digital
innovation and safety go hand in hand, paving the way for a more secure and

Holding Off on Vada
Pav for a Greater Cause: World Safe ePay
Day**
As someone who has often relied
on Vada Pav during my time in Mumbai, this beloved snack holds a special place
in my heart. However, I have decided to put my Vada Pav cravings on hold until
we make significant progress in declaring World Safe ePay Day.
This sacrifice is my personal
pledge to raise awareness about the importance of secure online transactions.
Just as Vada Pav is an essential part of Mumbai's street food culture, safe and
secure digital payments should be a cornerstone of our global digital economy.
Every blog post I write, and
every social media interaction I engage in, brings us closer to the goal of
recognizing World Safe ePay Day. Until then, I’ll keep my love for Vada Pav as
motivation to push forward and advocate for a safer online world.
Disclaimer: These are my thoughts only. The only Bliss is
promoting the Joy of Safe ePayments. World Safe ePay
Day is a medium through which you can experience the joy of safe epayments.
